Maybe do a google search for a manual on your exact machine. Good luck and have fun!

Re: All About Wheat Grinders (Grain Mills)

As to the Mill & Mix stones- Are your stones broken, worn out? I have been using my Mill&Mix since the mid 1980's on a regular basis. I have never needed to replace the stones. After a while of use-about every 6 months or after a very large grinding they will build up a type of film(I will call it that). From the oils of the berry. What I do is grinder dry corn on a very course setting. This will scrub off the oil film and the stones are then ready to go again. With a family of 14 I grind quite a bit of wheat making 8-10 loaves a couple times a week. I love my Mill & Mix it is a power house and if you can find one it is more than worth its weight in gold!

Re: All About Wheat Grinders (Grain Mills)

Anyone know where I can get new mill stones for my old Mill N Mix wheat grinder?

Re: All About Wheat Grinders (Grain Mills)

fantastic link! wow! thank you.

Re: All About Wheat Grinders (Grain Mills)

What is the brand name? If you are looking for more of a cracked grain consistency you would need to use a manual grinder for that. I think most electric mills just do not have the ability to do it without making it too fine. Sorry!

Re: All About Wheat Grinders (Grain Mills)

I have a question. Reviews that I read about the Wonder Elec Mill said that the coarse selection did not really grind it coarse. They said not much difference between the coarse and regular grinding. Is this true? I am about to purchase a grinder but want to make sure I can get coarse chunky grains for my bread making.. 12 grains in bread that have the coarse seeds in the dough. Let me know. Thanks. Kay

Re: All About Wheat Grinders (Grain Mills)

Julie and Jodi,
Awesome article. Y'all are doing a great job on helping folks getting prepared, with food storage, for the rough times ahead.

So,

I would like to suggest an extremely inexpensive addition to your list that I found reading "Nuclear War Survival Skills" many years ago.

It involves three pieces of pipe, wired together, and a metal can resting on a piece of concrete.

Link:
Oregon Institute of Science and Medicine - Nuclear War Survival Skills, Chapter 9: Food
Expedient Processing of Grains and Soybeans
http://www.oism.org/nwss/s7...

PS. I believe, this would make a great handout for any family planning to help the neighbors during a food crisis.

Re: All About Wheat Grinders (Grain Mills)

I have a magic bullet blender. I have made oat flour in it and use the flour for pancakes and things. Works great. And I can make smoothies too. That way you can have the hand crank and also an electric option for everyday use. So you would spend $119 + $30 for a grinder that does both! Pretty good deal and it works great!

Re: All About Wheat Grinders (Grain Mills)

Denise, The Wonder Junior can grind nuts and seeds. It is a manual grinder but one of the better ones. Any electric grinders will have problems with grinding nuts. If you want to learn about the Wonder Juniors you can look under our products tab for more info on the WonderMill products.

Re: All About Wheat Grinders (Grain Mills)

I am allergic to wheat and am interested in making almond flour. I have the "family grain mill" and I really like it. It's good for those of us who want it all. :-) Instead of buying a separate motor I just got an adapter and can use it with my Bosch machine. Got mine at pleasanthillgrain.com Does a good job and I've been making fluffy delicious 100% whole wheat bread with it.

Re: All About Wheat Grinders (Grain Mills)

CARA- SOOO SORRY!
