Food Storage Made Easy: Backup Your Computer with Mozy!

  • TracyinSC · 10 months ago
This is so perfect. I was just thinking the other day that I needed to find a good way to backup my files. Especially since I'm adding a bunch of new spreadsheets that are very important to me (thanks guys) and lots more photos from my new Christmas camera (thanks mom).

So there you go again, always one step ahead of me! ;) Thanks.

Oh, do you have a referral code for Mozy? I'm signing on for the free account, to see if that's enough space. (I may likely upgrade soon, but it's worth a shot.) They asked me for referral code. Wanna make sure you get credit.
  • Jodi · 10 months ago
Tracy, don't worry about the referral code, if you click through from our link, it should automatically give us any "credit". Thanks for being so thoughtful :) And you will LOVE Mozy!!! I just signed up today and it's been uploading all my pictures and documents all day long. I would be devastated to lose all of this stuff.
  • Lindsey · 10 months ago
I signed up for the free version as well, I can upgrade when needed. I don't keep any pictures on my computer (I use dropshots/shutterfly- unlimited). There's also Google Docs, so we'll see how this one works!
  • Jodi · 10 months ago
Lindsey, that's great if the free version meets your needs (who doesn't want to save $5 a month?!) I don't have any other backup for my pics and docs and the fact that this does it automatically for me was HUGE for me. I'm so bad at ever remembering to do backups. And I've had a computer die in the past and it was awful. I lost all my business files. eek.

I signed up for Mozy. Thank you for telling me about it :-) In 11 hours it should be done uploading. Wow!

I signed up for Mozy; but the free version. :) I would hate to lose important things on my computer- but they all add up to under 1GB- or so I just found out. lol The programs and stuff I'm not as worried about, though it would be a hassle if I lost them I'm sure. My husband had to reformat his computer 2x last year due to viruses- I've been lucky myself upto now. I will be passing this to him & friends. Thanks for sharing :)

I'm really excited about your "baby steps" program...and thank you, thank you, for your suggestion about "Mozy" I signed up today. I've been warned to "back up" several times, and even lost everything once when my computer crashed, but I just "didn't get around to it" so now I won't have to worry about it EVER AGAIN !!! Thanks again.

I signed up for the trial program to see how I like it. My husband and I both like the idea of backing up our computer. However, I am a little concerned about people hacking into their site and getting our information. How secure is their information and their site? Any thoughts on this?
  • Admin · 10 months ago
    Kylene,

Here is some additional information that I think will answer your question (and more) it's from their site...

    * Open/locked file support: Mozy will back up your documents whether they're open or closed.
    * 128-bit SSL encryption: The same technology used by banks secures your data during the backup process.
    * 448-bit Blowfish encryption: Secures your files while in storage, providing peace of mind that your private data is safe from hackers.
    * Automatic: Schedule the times to back up and MozyHome does the rest.
    * New and changed file detection: MozyHome finds and saves the smallest changes.
    * Backs up Outlook files: Disaster-proof email protection.
    * Block-level incremental backup: After the initial backup, MozyHome only backs up files that have been added or changed, making subsequent backups lightning fast.

  • Brittany · 10 months ago
I signed up for the $5 a month, a bargain when you figure out what you would really be losing. We usually back up to an external hard drive, but are you really going to grab that when you are running out of the house!
  • Maggie Goebel · 10 months ago
I signed up for it. That's a good deal. I will cancel my $5. a month text messaging that I don't use to pay for it. I was curious... is it possible to download onto the site other programs on my computer like the software I had to download from the internet to run my Epson printer or the Trend Mico anti virus I downloaded from the site. Is it only our documents, photos.. videos?
  • Nola · 10 months ago
I've been thinking about doing this for a while now. I had thought about an external hard drive or a 16GB thumbdrive or something. But, this seems so much easier. I'm excited. I did the $4.95 a month because it doesn't take long for pictures to add up in size and I have over 2GB of just them. I didn't, however, find it EASY to get started. But my son will be here tonight to help me . . .

I have been trying to decide whether or not to do this all week. I don't know why I am so bad a making decisions! But, I finally did it today! I am so glad! I would be devastated if I lost my computer! Thanks for the little nudge to be more prepared!

I have been wanting to get mozy but since having scanned a million pictures I put them and other documents onto CDs and flashdrives so that they won't take up as much space as they did . Now what I am wondering is although I do have these flashdrives in a safe I would love to have them backed up on mozy . So my question is do they also back up discs and flashdrives of files not on your computer because that is where most of my important info is ? Thank you .
