I do have family in town but they are 20 minutes away. Should I have them go that far away if needed? Also, I would LOVE to have a copy of your medical authorization form JULIE!

Re: Emergency Preparedness Plan (and PDF’S!!!!)

This is a wonderful service you are doing! Thank you!

I have a question: where are some good places to meet away from home?

At first I thought of the church building, but it's a 10-minute drive away, and might not be open during an emergency.

We have no family nearby.

Any suggestions?

Re: Emergency Preparedness Plan (and PDF’S!!!!)

Quick addition to the Medical Authorization form - I also added our children's blood types, current weights, and any regular medication with dosage, as well as all of our doctor, dentist, pharmacy and preferred hospital information to this form for family members who care for our kids occasionally. In an emergency, our kids would be able to get quick medical/dental help, and that is an important piece of mind for me. Thanks!

Re: Emergency Preparedness Plan (and PDF’S!!!!)

Hi! I just found your site and I really LOVE it! Thank you for sharing the blessing of all your hard work with us. I truly appreciate it! Just a quick note about something I am adding to our Emergency Notebook - A Medical Authorization form for our children, so that their grandparents and aunts/uncles in town could authorize emergency medical/dental treatment. I think that is an important piece to keep updated, especially if you travel or leave your children in someone else's care. I'd be happy to share my specific form I use if it would help anyone. Thanks again for all you are doing- it is so valuable!

Re: Emergency Preparedness Plan (and PDF’S!!!!)

Thank you for outlining this in baby steps, it just makes it so doable!

Re: Emergency Preparedness Plan (and PDF’S!!!!)

I saved the new version to my desktop and when I click to open it It says

emergency.xls cannot be accessed. corrupt file

Re: Emergency Preparedness Plan (and PDF’S!!!!)

Thanks for the ideas! And super great idea for the sharpie marker, Shelly! Wow! Count me among the excel haters-sorry Julie!

I have one more quick suggestion to put up at the top of your "grab and go" list. A black sharpie marker. If you have to evacuate take a minute to write the following on the back of your child(ren): name, cell phone number, out of town number (grandparents?), and allergies/meds. I hate to think of it but there is a chance members of the family might get separated and this info would be very helpful for anyone who found your child(ren). Even older kids might get nervous in an emergency situation and forget.

Re: Emergency Preparedness Plan (and PDF’S!!!!)

Thanks so much for the info. My husband and I have been on fire about food storage for the last few months. It feels good to have a lot done. I'm glad to have an outline and plan for emergencies. You guys have thought of everything. Thanks again.
