Jamie West · 11 months agoI noticed that you said to only buy pure maple syrup instead of other syrups. Why is this? Does the other not last as long or is it just because it is almost pure sugar?

Nita H. · 11 months agoI hate to disagree with Mary, but you can freeze yeast. I'm gluten-free. I bake literally every bread the kids & I eat. Once I open my yeast, it goes into the freezer. I've kept yeast in the freezer for over a year at a time with no change.

Terese B · 6 months agoI agree with Nita - you absolutely CAN freeze yeast!! That should be changed in the blog. The instant yeasts actually keep much better frozen for long term storage. I freeze it as soon as I buy it and keep it frozen after it's opened. No problems - ever. Love your site, by the way!!! We're using a lot of your info in our classes on emergency storage. Thanks for all the work!

Jodi -- Food Storage Made Easy · 6 months agoTerese and Nita, Yes we definitely freeze our yeast. I'm not sure why Mary Hunt does not recommend this. But this was copied straight from an email newsletter I received from her so I didn't make any changes. Sorry for the confusion!
