I loved the video about the three wheat grinders. Whole grains are an important part of food storage, but they can sometimes be a little intimidating.
I think that you have shown just how easy it is to use wheat on an everyday basis.
I also love the fact that you included a manual grinder... no electricity would make that a necessary item to have included in your storage.

What I have is the grain mill attachment for my KitchenAid mixer. It's a good option for motorized milling at a low price tag, and minimal storage space. I believe it cost me about $50-60 on eBay. It seems like it may take a little longer than the electric mills you show in the video, but I find I can just fill up the hopper and leave it while I do other things. If you already have a KitchenAid it is a great option!

Ana, thank you for commenting! I have heard from a lot of people that these attachments actually break their KitchenAid mixers. I think the stress of it over time just burns out the motor. How often do you use yours?
I did some research on this for a wheat grinder article I'm writing. We didn't have one to try for the video but I do talk about it as an option in my article.

I have a mill from K-tec, and if you can believe, it's LOUDER than the ones you showed. I have to leave the room it's so loud. What I will say is that it grinds the wheat VERY fine, much finer than any other mill I've seen. I'm not sure if that is always a benefit or not! Also, it does not have a separate lid for storage, which is annoying.

Hi! I have a Wondermill like you showed and I LOVE it! It's one the greatest purchases I have ever made. I use it so often, it's so quiet, and so fast and easy to use. I love the fact that it's self-cleaning...that makes it all the more worth it to me! Some of the others out there are difficult to clean.

IT IS amazing. After we did the video we realized how much easier the wondermill was to clean up, and we put the same amount of grain in both the wondermill and nutrimill at the same time, and wondermill was faster. We'll be writing a post about it later, but for sure the wondermill wins my heart!

I have a nutrimill and like it . One advantage it has over the wondermill is that the nutrimill can grind popcorn, other grains, and legumes, but the wondermill can only grind wheat. The nutrimill does not have to be turned on before you put the wheat/grains/legumes in, but the wondermill does have to be turned on before you put the wheat in.

We think the NutriMill is fine, but it is louder and messier than the WonderMill. So we prefer WonderMill. Also, the WonderMill will grind anything the NutriMill will. I grind popcorn in mine all the time for homemade cornbread. And I use it for dried beans almost every week. You do have to turn it on before you put the grains in but I don't have any problem with that. Thanks for your feedback.

I also have a K-Tec and agree it is VERY loud. I set it up outside to grind and go back inside while it grinds.It is also a bit messy. It does do a good job of grinding wheat and I have had it for about 15 years with moderate use. The plastic casing around the motor is cracked but with some TLC and tape it is still working fine.

Can you grind the wheat for Cream of Wheat and grits? If so have you done this yourself. I am still torn between the WonderMill and the NutriMill. I like the WonderMill but want to grind for cereal also? Thanks

Rebecca, I emailed our contact at the WonderMill to find out for sure. We haven't tried it ourselves yet. There is a coarse setting but I'm not sure if it is coarse enough to be equivalent to a grits or cream of wheat texture. I'll keep you posted!
