It will pull ALL the air out and store for years. You can do this with almost any pantry item. Just be careful with powder items. Place them in a bag. The powder could clog up the jar sealer attachment. You can do this with candy bars, too. Cookies, crackers, chocolate chips, cake mixes, brownie mixes..........Just poke a whole in the wrapper and seal.

Re: Food Storage Recipes: Best Rice Krispie Squares

can u freeze rice krispies ?how long do they stay good and where is the best place to store them

Re: Food Storage Recipes: Best Rice Krispie Squares

suwheat said she has kept cereal for years, but I have had an issue with bugs in my long term cereal storage... is there a trick for preventing this?

Re: Food Storage Recipes: Best Rice Krispie Squares

From someone who has done it, we are still eating Corn Flakes and Rice Krispies from 2005 and they are just fine -- taste just the same to us. Also, I store my marshmallows in an airtight bucket and that "helps" but still not a long-term storage item. Love to know that I can use the corn syrup.

Back to the cereal -- we store a year's supply of cereal (at least) as a comfort food for hubby and kids (I don't care for it that often) and we store them for several years as we rotate them (just can't pass them up when they go on sale for 98 cents or so)..... so, cereal lasts a LONG time as long as it is unopened and in a cool, dark place --

Re: Food Storage Recipes: Best Rice Krispie Squares

Most of my cereals come with a best before date on the label. If there are nuts in it, I try to use them by the date since the nuts go rancid. If not then they're fine for another couple months. But they're not "long" term food storage, they fit better into 3 month storage that should be rotated regularly.

Re: Food Storage Recipes: Best Rice Krispie Squares

Save On Foods recommeds no more than 12 months unopened and within 6 months once opened.

www.saveonfoods.com

Re: Food Storage Recipes: Best Rice Krispie Squares

I also want to know the shelf life of the cereals.

Re: Food Storage Recipes: Best Rice Krispie Squares

I have a very similiar recipe but you use popcorn instead of cereal. What would be the shelf life on it? 3months, 1 year?

Re: Food Storage Recipes: Best Rice Krispie Squares

How do you store cereal like cornflakes and rice crispies

Re: Food Storage Recipes: Best Rice Krispie Squares

I would love to digitally scrapbook this recipe to put into my recipe box I just wish I had a photo of it as a finished product. My camera is having 'issues' so I can't get a photo of it. Are any of you making it soon and could take a good close up photo for me? If you do you can email me at soyprincesa2athotmaildotcom

Re: Food Storage Recipes: Best Rice Krispie Squares

yay. I got this recipe from a girl in Toronto, who took piano from me. Her name was Heather Whyte. A real CANADIAN recipe. Be careful not to scorch the moist ingredients as you melt them in the pot!

Re: Food Storage Recipes: Best Rice Krispie Squares

For one of the posters...Marshmallows can be stored in the freezer and pulled out and used just as normal.

Made this today for our FHE / Sunday treats. Thanks so much. Very delicious. I added a little semi sweet chocolate and it makes it so rich. I like it fine without chocolate too.

Re: Food Storage Recipes: Best Rice Krispie Squares

Good morning,

I'd just like you to know that a non-Mormon prepper very much appreciates your website and great ideas.

Kris

Re: Food Storage Recipes: Best Rice Krispie Squares

If you add melted milk chocolate on top, it takes this recipe from "best" to "bestest"!!! :-)

Re: Food Storage Recipes: Best Rice Krispie Squares

I'll be making these this weekend.
