I have been searching, trying to learn about food storage due to the unsettling fear I have about our economy and the way the dollar is falling so fast. My husband has been put on alert that he may be layed off, and I lost my job last year. In searching, I always found a ton of sites with scary disasters, fire behind a guy in a gas mask toting military meal packages! I know my family is not going to handle eating MRE's. I found your site, and finally my blood pressure calmed as I learned I could do this! I really could do this, and i didn't have to be scrared out of my whits doing it! Thank you so much for the work you do. I ordered the cook book and look forward on getting my 3 month supply up and running very quickly!

Re: Why Food Storage Series: Health Benefits

I really enjoy reading your website. I have been in a situation where my family of 5 actually lived off of our food storage (for 4 months), it was a trial and a great blessing. Keeping up to date with you gals, and continually learning more tips has kept my love and desire to not only have food storage, but to utilize it each day! I am just starting to post on my blog "Fantastik Fun with Food Storage" each Friday, largely in part because of the postive impact and inspiration you gals have been to me!
Thanks so much,

Jen

Re: Why Food Storage Series: Health Benefits

Especially for folks who are concerned about how to continue getting nutrients from fruits and vegetables from their food storage in an emergency, freeze dried foods are a great way to do just that. Freeze dried foods preserve 90-95% of the nutrients present in their fresh counterparts, and are an affordable and easy way to store fruits and veggies longterm. They're even great for everyday use.

Re: Why Food Storage Series: Health Benefits

Add bread waiting in the bread machine with your crock-pot and you've got Heaven......

Re: Why Food Storage Series: Health Benefits

I have something even better than the crock pot...it's called a husband who is such a good cook to come home from work to...

Re: Why Food Storage Series: Health Benefits

ah yes

Re: Why Food Storage Series: Health Benefits

Isn't that great when you walk in and the crock pot has been going all day? :) It's like having a personal chef to cook for you! Smells wonderful and is SUCH a relief when you walk in the door. Tonight I was driving home wondering what I was going to make for dinner. Walked in the door and remembered that I had put on some beans this morning - dinner is served! AND if you didn't get them going in the AM?? split peas (and other lentils) take a very short amount of time (20 minutes) to cook start to finish.
